IRON Alice
Details
files
After four years of IRON series keyboards we wanted to bring something to the table (or desk) both brand new and extremely special. The Alice layout has been requested nearly as much as the original 165 so we thought it was time to finally bring this to life. Leaving no stone unturned we applied our classic IRON design language to this quirky ergonomic layout while creating something uniquely ours at the same time.
This limited release pays homage to a time in the hobby when premium keyboards were meant to be tanks. IRON Alice features a giant through-hole weight just like the original IRON165 SE but this time we’ve jettisoned the brass for stunning, solid copper. At the same time we look forward, continuing to iterate and improve upon the time-tested design of the IRON series meaning this ergonomic release offers the best typing experience yet.
Form meets function creating subtle beauty in every angle and curve without sacrificing anything you’ve grown to love about IRON.
IRON, meet Alice.

WILL THERE BE EXTRAS?
As this is a limited release that is already in production there will be a very limited amount of extras. Your best chance of getting a board would be to try to purchase during the preorder period.
WILL THERE BE A ROUND 2 IN THE FUTURE?
We don't like to speak in absolutes, but the chances are extremely slim. This isn't a layout we're planning to bring into the rotation and is meant to be something special and unique. As such, there will likely not be a round 2.
WILL A HOTSWAP PCB BE OFFERED IN THE FUTURE?
As a limited and special release targeted more towards collectors and enthusiasts we will only be offering a solderable PCB.
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
In general this is my favorite sounding IRON to date. The lower compression between the gaskets on the plate AND the lack of flex cuts in the PCB not only improves the typing experience but the sound as well. Relative to a 160 or 165 one can expect a more quiet, more even sound, but not muted or subdued.
As with all IRON keyboards the space between the bottom of the PCB and the case isn't much. This reduces echo within the case while really allowing your switches to shine. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how your switches are prepared and how they sound. We find most IRON keyboards simply amplify your switches natural sound a bit.
SOUND TESTS
This first sound test features NK "whipped" creams (broken in with 100k keypresses) and Durock v2 stabs. The mic is placed very close and the sound in unedited. The recording took place in a "live" room without any acoustic treatment. No foam was used whatsoever.
The goal of this sound test (and future tests) is one of honesty rather than trying or setting it up in such a way to sound good. That said we think it sounds really good in person and hope we were able to capture it accurately for you in this video.
